Green Seal Standards

Our sustainability standards for products, services, and companies are based on life-cycle research, and are developed in an open, transparent, and stakeholder-involved process. Green Seal standards provide criteria and guidelines for manufacturers, service providers, and companies to work toward sustainability and Green Seal certification. Green Seal has 33 issued standards that cover 400 product and service categories.


Paper Products

GS-01 Sanitary Paper Products This standard establishes environmental, health, and social requirements for sanitary paper products, including products such as bathroom tissue, facial tissue, paper towels, napkins, and placemats.
GS-07 Printing and Writing Paper This standard is for printing and writing paper.
GS-10 Coated Printing Paper This standard is for coated printing paper.
GS-15 Newsprint This standard is for all newsprint and printed products manufactured from newsprint, including newspapers and miscellaneous published material made from newsprint such as inserts, flyers, etc.
GS-18 Paper Products Used for Food Preparation This standard is for paper products used in the preparation of food, also known as "indirect food additives".
GS-35 Food Service Packaging This standard is for food-service packaging including single-use containers for packaging or carry-out of products from restaurants and other retail food service establishments.
