Green Seal standards provide criteria and guidelines for manufacturers, service providers, and companies to work toward sustainability and Green Seal certification.     • The Green Seal Standard for Reusable Bags, GS-16, establishes environmental, health, and social requirements for reusable bags.

    The standard requires that the bags are durable and withstand 125 uses at full capacity. The bags have to be tested for heavy metals, like lead, to ensure that they meet the low levels required. The bags have to be washable so users can properly reuse the bags. The standard can serve as a tool to help companies begin to take action to improve their products and is available for Green Seal certification.
