Green Governments And Non-Profits

Environmentally Preferable Purchasing

Green Seal’s market-transformation mission involves connecting suppliers and purchasers. President Clinton’s 1993 Executive Order (EO 12873) brought the term “environmentally preferable product” into the Federal lexicon and directed purchasers to consider the lifecycle of products and services. As the first US-based nonprofit ecolabel with a life cycle methodology, Green Seal was well-suited to provide guidance and help pioneer environmentally-preferable purchasing (EPP). Today our work with purchasers has expanded to include government at all levels, schools and higher education, healthcare, private sector businesses, and non-governmental organizations.

Purchasers provide the vital market pull for environmentally-responsible products and services – and the motivation for suppliers to improve the sustainability of their offerings – with far-reaching benefits for end users, taxpayers, building occupants, and the planet. Green Seal products can help meet your EPP needs by:
  • Reducing toxicity
  • Protecting indoor air quality
  • Using recycled content
  • Reducing water and energy use

  • Meeting biodegradibility levels
  • Meeting GSA specifications
  • Meeting EPA EPP specifications
  • Counting towards LEED points
