Green Governments And Non-Profits

green cities/green businesses

Green Seal’s work with local and state governments to create more sustainable communities focuses on recognizing leaders among local businesses. We work with local and regional governments and other entities to create green business programs tailored to the specific needs of each jurisdiction. In addition, Green Seal has worked with a number of different organizations to implement a green certification program for the hospitality industry.

Green Business Programs

Green Seal works with local government and other organizations to help them develop tailored standards and certification programs for their local businesses. These programs can take a number of forms. In some cases, we team up with government organizations to certify local businesses to national Green Seal standards. In other cases, we partner with local organizations to develop standards specifically for their local certification program. We also develop checklists, best practices manuals, and educational and outreach materials for government agencies and other organizations to use to encourage businesses to become more sustainable.

As part of this program Green Seal works with local organizations to provide training on how to evaluate and certify local businesses.

Green business programs can help state and local governments achieve a number of environmental and economic objectives, including:
  • Decreasing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Saving energy
  • Conserving water
  • Reducing solid and hazardous waste
  • Reducing exposure of workers, residents, and visitors to toxic chemicals
  • Educating the local workforce about environmental impacts and benefits
A key element of the Green Cities/Green Businesses Program is education and outreach. Working in concert with government agencies and local trade associations Green Seal staff provides information to local businesses about what is involved in becoming certified, as well as the benefits of certification to the environment and the organization.
